So, why is it that so many people seem to hate it when we repeat ourselves?
We need to have compassion and understanding of the elderly, as they often repeat themselves. I know I have at times found it convenient to group myself with them ...as a ploy to insist that others be more polite when I repeat myself.
That aside, when we don't like others to repeat themselves, it is often because we don't want to hear the words they are saying. The truth is, repetition is used in all these cases as a technique to emphasize.
We understandably don't often want something that is negative to be repeated, or emphasized. But, we must first define negative.
Negative is not always harmful or bad ...it is often merely not wanted. It is clear that we may not want to hear the harmful and bad ...but, sometimes we don't want to hear the truth.
The point is ...is it necessary for the truth to be learned? And I propose that it is both necessary and wise.
Therefore, this is my defense in favor of repetition ...that I believe the truth should be emphasized.
(http://thispartisnotfunyetseemsnecessary.blogspot.com/) ...& perhaps try this on for size.
Repetition is used in literature, as a rhetorical devise, & as a technique in teaching.

It is not only those who want to emphasize the truth who use the knowledge of the effectiveness of repetition.
All this was inspired by the principle--which is quite true within itself--that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.
—Adolf Hitler , Mein Kampf
Joseph Goeggels later wrote: The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous.
The essential elements state that if you repeat a lie long enough ...people will believe it to be true.
This can be done unknowingly also ...as during the time before Columbus sailed, they had widely taught that the world was flat.
The term "flat-earthers" has been recently used as a political tool to poke fun at people whom others disagreed with, claiming they were not modern enough thinkers to accept such things as the evolutionary theories that have been taught for years in our schools ...or the more recent phenomenon of "global warming" (to us in Michigan, experiencing one of the coldest winters in many years, we find it difficult to reason it as merely a slight fluctuation or spike out of the ordinary warming trend).

So, it also becomes a technique to laugh at & ridicule those who don't believe the lie ...as if they are the ones who are believing the real falsehood. Ridicule or criticism ...anything between scoffing and scorn finds itself in the promotion of the lie, to embarrass and belittle all those not embracing it.
Many of us do not use those insensitive and often cruel techniques, therefore upon seeing so intense of a campaign against the truth ...we feel compelled all the more to appeal to logic and rational thinking.
Rational thinking is the ability to reason. But, just because we have the ability, does not mean we use that ability to reason the correct way.
Rationalize:
: to think about or describe something (such as bad behavior) in a way that explains it and makes it seem proper, more attractive, etc.
Medical Definition of RATIONALIZE
transitive verb
: to bring into accord with reason or cause something to seem reasonable; especially : to attribute (one's actions) to rational and creditable motives without analysis of true and especially unconscious motives
When describing bad behavior with the intent to make it seem more attractive without analysis of what is true ...challenges us to also define bad and right & wrong.
When describing bad behavior with the intent to make it seem more attractive without analysis of what is true ...challenges us to also define bad and right & wrong.
Do we accept the ideals of all cultures? Is cannibalism wrong in one society, yet acceptable in another? That may seem extreme to you, but it is not to others.
Who decides what is bad, and what is not?
Who decides what is right & what is wrong?
Is the most powerful the one who decides? Is mob rule, or dictatorial government acceptable to you?
To be honest, the most powerful will decide ...but, the One who is most powerful has decided to be compassionate in the sense of giving us the liberty to make mistakes.
Yet, the One whom I'm referring to ...also decides what is considered a mistake.
What that means, is that the Bible clearly explains many things that we choose to ignore. We attempt to define right & wrong, when the Bible, as the Word of God, does not grant us that blissful ignorance.
There has to be a standard, otherwise there will be no others to be wise.
I do not claim to be wise. The only wisdom I can attain is by seeking out Him, so I can refer you to He who is ...and He who died, for our sake, so we could know. And we know more clearly of God, if only we accept His Son who came to glorify Him.
Jesus is He of whom the Old Testament prophesied of ...and who truly sacrificed for our lacking, so we would not lack. The Bible clearly shows us this ...and I repeat it, because not enough emphasis can be given to that fact. And though we may attempt to find reason to rationalize away from that truth ...it will never be a satisfactory reason.
